Authorities call for joint efforts towards ending new HIV infections among children

Authorities in Ntungamo district have called for joint efforts towards stopping new HIV/AIDS infections among children.
Speaking during the child wellbeing committee meeting held in the district boardroom for the district, leaders revealed that they were concerned about new infections among children especially among orphans and vulnerable children.
Hussein Kato the head of TPO –Uganda USAID Keeping children healthy and save project in Ntungamo revealed that there is need for serious efforts to be directed towards supporting children saying that it is the only way to have healthy and safe citizens in the future.
Doreen Komuhangi a senior community development officer with Ntungamo district revealed that there is a need to address the challenge of poverty which often leaves the children in compromising situations thus exposing them to dangerous actions such as commercial sex.
Dinah Nabaasa an inspector of schools with Ntungamo district revealed that there is need for parents to always inculcate good manners in their children which she says is the foundation of having a better future by staying in school and becoming self reliant.
The meeting was attended by religious leaders and development partners with special interest in child rights protection.
