Ntungamo District Commissions Shs367 Million Renovated Infrastructure Project

Ntungamo, Uganda — May 1, 2026, Ntungamo District on Thursday officially commissioned a Shs367 million infrastructure rehabilitation project aimed at modernizing key public facilities at the district headquarters, a move expected to boost service delivery and enhance local revenue collection.
The project, valued at Shs367,288,118 and funded under the District Discretionary Equalisation Grant (DDEG), was commissioned on Thursday, April 30, following months of renovation works. The ceremony was graced by Chief Administrative Officer Fidelis Kiiza, Resident District Commissioner Miriam Mugisha Kagaiga, and District Vice Chairperson Asuman Kigongo.
Renovation efforts focused on ageing structures, including the former prison buildings, planning unit offices housing the district library, the gatehouse, sanitary facilities, the district monument, and compound pathways. Modern installations such as Wi-Fi, security cameras, new furniture, and terrazzo flooring were added to improve functionality.
The former prison structures have been transformed into a multipurpose facility expected to host district programmes, including a resource centre designed to benefit farmers and business communities. District officials emphasized that the project was undertaken to repurpose deteriorating facilities into productive assets that can support government initiatives and generate revenue.
According to acting District Engineer Charles Kusemererwa, the contract was signed on January 14, 2026, with Goldna General Supplies Limited, and construction began on January 28. Although initially scheduled for six months, the project was completed two months ahead of time. Commissioner Mugisha Kagaiga commended the contractor for delivering quality work within a shorter timeframe, noting that the improved infrastructure will directly benefit the community.
The Director Glodina General Supplies Construction Company Ltd Edgar Kwesiga noted this renovation was supposed to be done in six months but finished it with two months left an indication that the works were executed on time.
District leaders, including Vice Chairperson Asuman Kigongo and CAO Fidelis Kiiza, praised the technical staff for effective supervision, highlighting that the upgraded facilities will strengthen administrative efficiency and create a more conducive working environment.
Kiiza added that the renovation marks a significant milestone in Ntungamo District’s drive to modernize public infrastructure and improve access to services for residents.
