Elders urged to embrace National IDs registration

Elders have been urged to embrace registration for National Identity cards so that they do not lose out on government services.

The call was on Monday made by Rtd Major General John Mateeka the chairperson for Ntungamo district elderly during a council session held at Ntungamo district council hall.

Mateeka revealed that a section of elders in the district has missed out on the social assistance grant for the elder-SAGE because they do not have national identity cards which he said would have been avoided.

Farmers tipped on reducing post-harvest losses

Farmers in Ntungamo district have been urged to focus on embracing modern farming practices as well as reducing post-harvest losses.

The call was this morning made by Albert Mugabe the Ntungamo district production officer  on Thursday while speaking at the opening of a one-day training for extension workers and local leaders held at Abateganda hall in Ntungamo Municipality.

Mugabe revealed that the district is well known for producing beans in large quantities but says that there is need to address the issue of quality.

Newly Graduated students urged to pursue further studies

 The Ntungamo district Council Speaker, Nicholas Twikirize Mugyenyi, has encouraged newly graduated students of the Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC)-Ntungamo study center to pursue further studies and upper grade if they want to get good jobs in the future, explaining that a certificate, diploma, or degree cannot be sold nowadays.

 

Locals receive alternative livelihoods as compensation from the green climate change project

At least 50 families in Rwenanura-Kakukuru town council in Ntungamo district who were evicted from the Rufuha wetland in 2018 received alternative livelihoods as compensation from the Green Climate Change Project.

 

 

Goats, fish ponds, and an irrigation scheme are among the compensation measures provided to the community in order for them to appreciate living with the wetlands while not disturbing them and instead assisting in their conservation.

 

 

Ntungamo launches polio vaccination campagn

Ntungamo’s acting district health officer (Ag.DHO) Sr. Hope Katusiime has launched a three-day house to house vaccination campaign against Polio.

The campaign that will take three days is set to kick off on  Friday the 14th to 16th January 2022  apart from Ngoma and Rwentobo where vaccination will be on Monday 17th and Wednesday 19th Jan 2022 where all children under the ages of five are highly encouraged to be vaccinated.

Ntungamo RDC calls for improved monitoring of health services

Ntungamo resident district commissioner David Kaboyo has challenged in charges of health centers in Ntungamo to improve on their commitment to monitor service delivery and ensure that there are clear duty roasters so that those to cover duty shifts are clear including weekends and night shifts.

Kaboyo revealed that the move will lead to increased uptake of health services and better health service delivery.

Ntungamo RDC cautions locals against overspending during Christmas.

Ntungamo resident district commissioner David Kaboyo has called on locals to desist from lavish spending during the festive season.

Kaboyo who was this afternoon speaking at an childhood education technical workshop aimed at laying strategies for home learning held in Ntungamo district council hall revealed that it does not make sense for people to overspend during Christmas and then struggle to survive in the next year.

Authorities investigate the death of over 400 pigs in Ntungamo

Authorities in the Southwestern district of Ntungamo are investigating circumstances under which over 400 pigs have died.

The authorities say over 150 pigs have suddenly died in Kibatsi Sub county, over 50 in Bwongyera sub county about 20 in Ntungamo municipality as well as over 150 from Ruhaama county.

Ntungamo district veterinary officer Dr.Yaake Basulira says that the animals lose appetite and died in a very short time.

Ntungamo CAO calls for improved supervision of government schools

The Ntungamo district deputy chief Administrative officer Fedelis Kiiza has called on the leaders at lower levels of leadership to improve on the supervision of government schools in a bid to improve the quality of education in the area.

Kiiza was on Wednesday speaking during the district’s technical planning committee held in the district council hall.

Ntungamo gets motorcycle to support eye care services

Ntungamo district has received a brand new motorcycle to support the child eye health project which is funded by light for the world.

While handing over the motorcycle registration number LG 0027094, the Project administrator Lovincer Nantongo revealed that the donation of the motorcycle is aimed at easing the mobility of health workers so that they can reach out to the communities for sensitization and treatment of eye illnesses.
