Ntungamo Water Sector Adopts Digital Data Collection to Enhance Service Delivery

By Anthony Kushaba

Ntungamo District has launched a digital data collection system aimed at improving water service delivery and ensuring the efficient management of water sources.

As part of the initiative, 28 tablets have been distributed to lower local governments to facilitate real-time data collection on the status of water sources. The move is expected to enhance planning, monitoring, and timely intervention in addressing water-related challenges.

According to Ntungamo District Water Officer Prosper Butubuura, health inspectors and community development officers will play a key role in mobilizing and sensitizing communities on protecting water sources and maintaining water projects in their respective areas. He emphasized that digital data collection will provide authentic and reliable information, enabling authorities to make informed decisions and respond swiftly to emerging issues.

Ntungamo District Health Officer Amon Bahati underscored the importance of accurate data in planning and service delivery. He urged district staff to embrace teamwork, noting that effective collaboration would enhance the success of the initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer, Shallon Birungi, the Principal Assistant Secretary commended the government of Uganda and the Ministry of Water and Environment for supporting the program. She highlighted that access to clean water is essential for public health, productivity, and economic development.

Bibiana Kakinoni, the Secretary for Health and Social Services, who represented the Local Council Five Chairperson Sam Muhunguzi, reaffirmed the district’s commitment to expanding access to clean water. She stressed that improved water services would help reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases and improve overall community well-being.

Kakinoni further called on district staff to dedicate sufficient time to their duties and collaborate with local communities to ensure the success of the program. She assured that the district leadership remains committed to supporting health inspectors and community development officers in executing their responsibilities effectively.

The adoption of digital data collection marks a significant step in Ntungamo’s efforts to enhance water management, ensuring that every resident has access to safe and reliable water sources.
