Ntungamo  Women Council Leaders go Through Unopposed

Four members of the Ntungamo district women council were on Wednesday nominated and selected unopposed after no opponent turned up to challenge their nomination by close of nominations at 5Pm

 

Peace Musiime was elected the district women council chairperson with   Nyinomujuni Jean Annet as the vice chairperson.

 

Annet Kyoshabire becomes eth publicity secretary while Karungi Annet Nshemereza became the secretary for finance.

Over 160 Formed Police Officers (FPU) from the Field Force Unit that have been in AMISOM mission in somalia on a one year tour of duty have been appreciated for their endless efforts they put in to bring and preserve peace in that country.

This was during the debriefing ceremony that was held today at Field Force Police (FFP) headquarters,Naguru .

Health Minsitry Orders for Heightened Surveillance Following Ebola Outbreak in DRC

The ministry of health has ordered for heightened surveillance in districts close to the boarder with the Democratic Republic of Congo following the outbreak of Ebola in the area.

The recent outbreak of the disease was reported in Mangina , Mbalako health zone , in Beni Territory of North Kivu Province.

The outbreak is just 100 kilometers away from the Uganda-Democratic Republic of Congo Boarder point at Mpondwe in Kasese district.

Poor State of Ntungamo Stadium Irks Leaders

Authorities in the southwestern district of Ntungamo are concerned over the poor state of the district stadium.

 

The facility set up in the early 1990's is the biggest spots facility in the district and used to host national and local events. 

 

The stadium currently hosted by Rubaare town council is now in bad shape with vandals targeting the materials used to construct it.

The gate was taken by yet to be identfied people a couple of year ago and bricks are also being taken away slowly but surely.

 

Great Rift Geo-Sciences Company to Explore for Minerals in Ntungamo


Stephen Turyahikayo, a consultant with the company, says they have already started sensitizing residents in the areas where the exploration is set to take place. He asked residents not to be misled into rushing to buy land, saying it may have or not have minerals.

Ntungamo Moves to Boost Tourism

Ntungamo District has moved in to boost tourism in a bid to improve local revenue.


There are more than 20 tourism sites in the district. They include Bugona which hosts a giant tree known for having hosted the great ancestors of the Bachwezi, Lake Nyabihoko, Karegye rock, Kyafora hot springs, a number of swamps that are known for bird watching, Karuruma cliff in Kayonza sub-county.

The district is also a stop over for hundreds of travellers destined for other tourist destinations such as Bwindi National Park, Queen Elizabeth National park among others.

Mp Rwakimari Irked by Increased Cases of Child Neglect

The Ntungamo district woman member of parliament Beatrice Rwakimaari has expressed concern over the increasing caes of child  neglect attributing to early marriages and failure  to fulfill their obligations.

 

Rwakimaari revealed that child battering and defilement, and cultures that allow early marriages and sexual harassment have persisted.

Ntungamo district registers atleast two cases of abandoned children every week with most of them from the town councils of Rubaare and Rwahi-Rwentobo.

Civils servants have advised to champion teamwork if they are serve their respective communities better.

Civils servants have advised to champion teamwork if they are serve their respective communities better.

This call was today afternoon made by Sowedi  Kitanywa the senior probation officer for Kasese district while addressing extention workers, community development officer and coordinators of operation wealth creation during a capacity training workshop held at Ntungamo district council hall.
